The day is closing in
a grungy gloaming of air
filled with particles that are wet
fitting feel for those in mourning

While across the veil
no longer chained
light and feathered flight proclaimed
surrounding joy
and music made of opening

Still the flesh
can feel the splinters
as the bones of upright walking
lay down the scream
and see the passage

They call a tortured plea
for life to keep
to late to stay the gate

they hear its quiet closing

Not possible to see the light
the drain of life is so enclosing
it trickles back into the pool
and torches flicker with the grim
of how and why and how again

Shhh   he calls in lullaby to baby's cry
there is no end only filigree of silk
blooming then a melting prism
encompassing of perfect quilt

I remember, and thank you
for remembering an important person
in your life.

In fact, I applaud you.

It is not always easy to remember.

I know.

Isn't life strange, like a prism circles around and reflects a different light every time.  This is a tribute worth a thousand words, and I am so thankful just to read you.   Bless you Martie girl.

Martie's touch...unequalled for this kind of expression. Alas that it is so.

My thoughts with you, dear lady.

Chilling in the intense wrench of grief... and yet beautiful... for they speak love. Such an excellent write, lady.

The sense of melancholy in this is overwhelming...beauty, yet sorrow...this is a wonderful way in which to remember your nephew and to honor him.

Only one thing to say about a poem like this: I love the way you say it, but I wish you didn't have to. Ratleader had it right.

How tragic--and Jeff must have been young if you were his aunt.

Love the poem Martie. You took the rest of my words away from me...feeling kind of choked up.

Excellent memorial poem, Martie
The poem is complex, but needs be so,
considering the theme...
Poets do not choose their topics, the topic chooses them....your muse chose well.
We must write about the dark, as well as the light........ice/ford
