state of confusion

We see them through colored filters
meant to conceal details of our dread,
we prefer instead to frame them
within sunlit fields of our minds;
stills of springtime smiles.

Their visits are uninvited, sudden.
They strike hammers through the clay
of memory. What is revealed?
Final expressions, different for each.
Some wear greased masks,
lips and eyes now straight lines,
others were caught open-mouthed in screams,
or quiet in dreams. It is as we last saw them --
when we believed a good shake would wake them.

They do not awaken.
Grottos keep their eyes,
sad eyes frozen for infinity.
Without warning, they open,
closing too slowly.

Wow Cor.  this reminds me of a movie that
I once saw....I cannot tell you the name,
but the imagery seems similar (in my mind).
An excellent, though a little dark (which is
just fine) write....thanx.

chilling and brilliant write as always admire your words

..and then one day you find..ten years have got behind you..no one told you when to run..you missed the starting gun..
