in a crowded subway station a hobo leads me through the throngs of lives split ends and nice knots i have no idea of this but the short man leading me tells me with no regard to the staring blue eyeballs slow motion controls are gained i sit watching myself on television controlling the way i move i am stuck in a maze of rainbows and i can't find the gold is the lesson i am to learn i close my eyes once more and i fly to a tribal ceremony and in the middle of all the natives is the bald white hobo laughing and dancing and singing he is banging on the drum slamming with all his might he feels like a king in a very strange land and this is the lesson of life that a surrealist hobo banging on the tribal drum taught me the man that created him. the only people for me are the mad ones-mad to live, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at once--jack kerouac |
