would that she could free men from their chains that they may flourish if only in the process she walked on fire for us and led the lambs to bleed upon those foreign altars for her joy began as freedom purchased for a price with blood and innocence as the ages fade she writhes in rust and shudders as we shrink from justice when she has gone we shall want for contracts of independence which are binding before idols and false gods she is Liberty she is our America "Who knows if to live is to be dead, and to be dead, to live?
