Letting Superman Go Pitied man, I held you once in high regard, your pedestal built from mortar of tears on innocent wings, forgave the sting for red cape that only my eyes could see. You were a flawed super-hero and still, I saw hope, a poor imitation of Superman, and yet, you held my adore, a perfect imperfection through blind eyes, unknowing; reality ignored that you were really my tormentor, the monster under my bed. I wasn't supposed to take care of you you were supposed to take care of me and guide me and love me unconditionally. I was the one who had to grow up too fast in need of an idol, a friend - one that cannot last. I needed someone to believe in, for that someone to believe in me. But, you yelled and yanked and hit and emotionally drained this little girl, a tragedy that even Superman could fall before kryptonite. You let me down, Daddy when you told me that I was your hate when all I ever did was love you. You bruised this little girl's soul and now she’s grown up and doesn’t believe in miracles anymore. You were my Superman, a fantasy to a child trying to find the good in a man filled with darkness; a second chance to a child trying to pump life into a dead man’s body leaving mine cold and worn well before my years. Take these tears I won't cry them anymore, take this fear It’s controlled me for too long. Take this shame, the blame keep it with the pain you inflicted. Take this rage, you deserve it most of all, take the silence, the loss, take these eyes from your hell. Superman, I held you once in high regard. Daddy, you let me down. hard to crit such honest, kicked in chest poetry... You found the perfect metaphor to exorsize your demons with poetess Melis. As always your poetry reaches out and effects the reader and impresses as well. "How could I stand here with you and not be moved by you." |

Indeed. Amazing how the same metaphor can be used to tell such a very different story. |
