She Lets it Pour all over Her

Laughter was like hot confetti
spilling from the sun
into the grass.

She could feel it bubble
from her throat
and burst there
into summer.

The hose was the season’s best toy,
the conduit of joy snaked across the patio
drenching the cement to cool,
then into pails
where she sat
like a queen
with a crown of wet curls.

Behind her the sheets waved
on the line
and her mother hummed into a book,
and even her brother
bounced into a smile

when he captured the waterfall
and let it pour all over her.

Now the girl is woman
turning toward summer’s remarkable
with her pails still full
and overflowing with cool.

That is the way she makes it past
those days that dare to question,
those days that stick to her
like a sagging bathing suit,

she lets it pour all over her.

Oh, I liked this very much...as I do all of your inspirational writes...Have missed Poet August too.
There was something about the pails, the overflowing...the maturing of time like a bathing suite. Really good Marti. TD

I adored the imagery in this one oh so much.

But as one woman to another, I just wish the darn bathing suit did not sag so much now.

Whatever's in those pails....I need it right now. Water? I'll take it. Happiness? Drench me. Kindness? Joy? Serenity? Knowing the source, it could be any or all of those.

oh martie, of all of your incredible writes, I think this is my favorite....after my car accident, my memory has faded so fast its not even fair, and this makes me wish for happy times to hang on to.....this is WONDER-FULL
