Between the Lines

Endurance

I heard your voice,
the sound not so old of friend,
drowning me in yesterday thoughts
despite the pounding that change brings
behind these closed eyes.

A never satisfied kiss
grips me in my dreams, daring me,
playing with my heart, but safely
as I awake to truth, and emptiness
and unscented candles dripping their light.

I am abused, my words
punishing me daily in a silence
only I can conceive, my teeth clenched,
my lips frozen waiting for the darkness to lift
and my crumpled thoughts to be smoothed.

I've cheated myself, visualized more
than could be captured in a moment of you
and am left bruised by the experience
like a peach, that has been handled and pinched
between thumb and fingers, left there...
its skin still bright but beneath,
the damage already done.

Spoiled, that's me, hiding within,
having had it all once, wondering if ever
I would chance upon it again
in more than dreams, and as I wait
the pounding's resistance eases, the pain
is minimized and I return to you and sleep.

"Love is not blind - It sees more and not less, but because it sees more, it is willing to see less."

Definitely one of your best.  This exudes relate in an exquisite word-flow and soul-pour.  Beautiful.

grips me in my dreams, daring me,
playing with my heart, but safely

you break through the density of emotions, with a reality full of character and theme...
Very much enjoyed and top of the morning to ya

agree with Mark..one of your best.. honest..angst filled self introspection..with a tinge of bitterness perhaps with yourself and others for not meeting the expectations...if only of a dream..

M.  some very powerful feelings written within.

Dreams can be so frustrating at times and yet
so satisfying at other times.  Given the
chance,  I think I would live in the dream
and accept the frustrations that I would
experience.

It's a day by day process, isn't it?

I hope tomorrow is a good day.
