“Don’t look down”, the prophet said and to the sky I lifted eyes upward through the clouds to see God’s beauty in a soul set free. And then it rained immortal truth, new feelings heaven sent, to wet the thirst of womanhood and wash away falsehoods. But in the sand magnetic rays pull forcibly, invisibly, and downward turn my eyes to the ground of no desire. Up and down, up and down, from truth to telling lies; how many walk along with me and suffer not the agony? “Don’t look down”, the prophet said to me he spoke, or to the dead? Helen |
