‘Well, gawd-o-giddy,’ my mama used to say,
as she threw her shoe in the dishwater.
‘Uh oh, mama’s mad, let’s get outta the way,
She’s in a dither and gettin’ hotter.’

Now mama didn’t get that mad too often,
well, at least not to that degree,
and the shoe in the sink would soon be forgotten,
then mama was sweet as could be.

Mama knew her temper, she had a heavy hand,
she dared not hit when she was mad.
and if anybody else needed help understandin’,
then maybe they should go ask old dad.

He’d tell anyone who asked about that time
mama slapped him up ‘side the head.
Knocked plum smooth out, he woke up and chimed,
‘You got a brick in your hand, Red?’

So mama wore old shoes at the sink in the kitchen,
just in case she got real good ‘n mad,
she'd sling that ol’ shoe when she’d get her an itchin’
to do what she did to ol’ dad.
