With Pleasure

"I awoke this morning with devout thanksgiving
for my friends, the old and the new."

A wind brought a whisper to grace me
with words to offset the notes that
play on my heart and cover the ache
that borders the walls I might have built
if friendship hadn't intervened.

"Who hears me, who understands me, becomes
mine, -- a possession for all time. "

It moved me beyond yesterday
giving me reason, and purpose
calming the storm that wanted to rage
guesting me with a pleasure I thought
could never touch me again

In living a tragedy, the flaws in life
I thought no words could console,
no smile would take a frown's place
no one would reach out, arm me in touch
create a bridge to cross over
and land me in trusting hold, ever again.

"we weave social threads of our own,
a new web of relations; and, as many thoughts
in succession substantiate themselves,
we shall by and by stand in a new world of our own
creation, and no longer strangers and pilgrims
in a traditionary globe. My friends have come to me unsought"

A bond is building, fading the hopelessness
removing the illusions that my words wear
trimming them instead with weavings,
stories interlaced with familiarity,
webbings left open, just enough
for the sun to set on the pleasantries
created by words unsought.

Thank God for friends...old and new

that  is exactly what I am trying to get across JamesM...thank you for your response.

Sue, hope the day goes well for you and your mother. I will be thinking of you both.

Balladeer, so far that has been how I have made the many friends I have...not that I don't go and make some new acquaintences on my own...but it is usually by accident of circumstance.
I appreciate your kind thoughts and words, Mike. I was led to Emerson, by words sent to me out of kindness and understanding and thought I better take a look and see how and why I was feeling uplifted from them.
I owe him my thanks...and yours...

Good Morning Dixie, I hope the day finds you well.
Thank you hugss
M

King of Hearts, welcome to passions you will see the many friendly faces in words here.

Vicky, Thank you. I would have just posted the poem, but it was Emerson's words that inspired it, and I wanted to give him credit.

WynterGal~

On this day of anniversary
of friends-in-gather, last year
How timely your gentle words
of friendship do appear~

Relishing each *giggled* hug
that drew us closer still
Wishing that we could return
to that little Villa down the hill~

Such a talented crew got together
in friendship, holding hands
Laughter, smiles ... and downright guffaws
as we came from across all lands~

Sentiments-of-remember
flood this heart with smiles ...
Wishing we could do it all over again
not divided by the miles~

I'm just having a sentimental moment
well, perhaps, three or four ...
Missing you ... and hoping we all
could gather for so much more~

Now ... this write is BEAUTIFULLY done, poetess~

'words to offset the notes that
play on my heart and cover the ache
that borders the walls I might have built
if friendship hadn't intervened'

You grace us with such talent AND friendship, my friend~
Thank you for being YOU~

Thankyou Marge, one of my very first friends on line
and the first in poetry..so long ago it seems...
I have a beginning poem..that has waited a year to be posted
and will sometime soon.

I have yet to add to it, as my life just kept taking it's twists and turns
and still, I have no idea where I am going yet.

Sometimes I see him look at me, sad eyes, not sure
if it is because of the future losses he knows I will have
or of his regrets in what he has chosen to give up..
life is hard when I look back...except on the friendships I have made.

love you,
M
