My soul walks,
sometimes sleepy,
along the sublime
subterranean streams
of unseemly discontent.
I'm not one who thinks
each life is heaven sent,
and I know I have no right
to think that I deserve
anything at all,
good
or bad,
after all I was born
after the vaunted fall from grace;
I know
this place is just a gritty grimy soggy ball
wandering
through forgotten back corridors of space.
If I find beauty here,
and I do almost everyday,
who's to say that I am right;
perhaps I'm just a fool.
What frightens me,
more than anything else,
is the simple sense
that at times I understand;
it would be underhanded of me
just to blurt out all I've learned.
I even know
that carelessness would earn me karma
I would one day have to burn.
What bothers me,
above all else
as if the future is just unknown history
lurking
in some dusty text,
is waiting
for us all to sit and read;
yet of all the things I leave untold,
what I love the most
is watching life unfold.
