Towards the end of living I spoke to her some time ago, she wasn't feeling good I hadn't seen her for a while, but she did understood We go back a long long time, I was a teen in bloom When she gave birth to a little girl and I gave her perfume He was headmaster of the pool and I went often there Because they let me walk the child, I really took good care Time went on and we grew up, but always stayed connected The child became an egoïst and often felt neglected I lost that girl at age of twelf, I mean her mind that is And I would tell a lie to you if I said she's be missed He helped us for so many years, rebuilding the old farm Came every week one day to help, had humor and some charm A few years back he died this man and he was a great loss And she fell down in that black hole because he'd played the boss I did not see her often then, but we spoke on the phone She wasn't such an active type and soon felt quite alone Two months ago I spoke to her and she was rather down She went to see some doctors and they put up a big frown She wasn't making blood no more and that was not so good There was no cure they said to her, demolishing her mood I tried to call her a few times but always she seemed out So I thought she was doing well, nothing to worry about And then this girl wrote me a letter, telling in one line "I've moved my mom to a nursinghome" she wasn't feeling fine I got a shock when I went down to see this lady sweet There was nothing left of whom she'd been, a shock it was indeed No flesh on bones and eyes that stared into a world unknown She looked at me with emptyness, no recognition shown I sat beside her bed and showed the flowers I had brought I picked them from my garden to her liking I had thought She stared at me and suddenly a little smile appeared And I had trouble holding tears, she was worse than I'd feared I took her hands and held them tight and kissed them soft right there And so we sat an hour long with only smiles to share She squeezed my hand and than I knew I had not come in vain There was a recognition shown and my heart ached from pain She tried to talk, but out her mouth came words unknown to me And deep inside I cried and hoped her spirit will soon be free I promised her to come again and suddenly I heard 'ok' I kissed her bony cheeks and thought, minds work in their strange way I'm angry with the daughter though, she should have told me, hell She deprived me of a right to say a proper and warm farewell I could have gone so many times, so many thoughts unspoken But in our smiles we still can love, untill the chain is broken. To Miep van de Velden, with all my love and may your sweet soul rest in peace soon Like scattered leaves...my words will flow [This message has been edited by Titia Geertman (08-04-2003 09:14 PM).] |

Titia, when I joined Passions, I liked you from the moment I first read a poem by you!--and the more I read, the deeper my appreciation is of your humanity and beautiful spirit. Linda |

that was beautiful, I know how it feels to see someone you love so much slowly drifting away. You express your feelings well. "There are moments in my life I will always remember, not because they were big events, but because you were there to make the worth remembering." ~Un |

Nice writing...something similar happened to my Mom...her sister had been ill for some time but suddenly worsened drastactly so her son took her to the hospital and she made him promise not to tell the rest of the family...she passed away quickly in the hospital and my Mom and other family members are still mad at him for not alerting the rest of the family so they could have visited her in the hospital...James |

Ah, lady... the pain seeps from your heart... as does the love. It hurts to lose... and sometimes hurts just as much to linger. My thoughts are with both of you. |
