I could see you were embarrased- At what your son had said, Your eyes revealed your anger, And your face turned pretty red... You grabbed him pretty roughly, As you turned and walked away... And to this day I'm haunted, By the words he had to say- He said, "Mister, are you Daddy? You are so big and tall. You dress like I remember... He did when I was small. I've missed him for a long time, And Mamma didn't know... He wouldn't be returning, From the Cheyenne Rodeo." His little eyes were shining, As he grabbed hold of me. He said, "I'm nearly seven- He left when I was three. Like you he wore those bluejeans, High boots, and western hat- And that big, old trophy buckle, I sure remember that." I spoke, but you ignored me... I saw it in your eyes. "I used to love a cowboy, But I can't stand no more lies!" So tell the boy, "I'm sorry- And I wish that he were mine. And I hope he finds his daddy, Somewhere on down the line." |

I love your poetry. It's always a song. I love this one too. I'm a bit teary-eyed, but you do that to me, you know. You're one of the reasons I come over here every month or so. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |

John...it's so good to read you here to-day. You stay away far too long and you know how I love your tales. Please say you'll stay longer this time. Loved this poem...sad, yet a story so expertly told. ~Summertime Smiles & Hugs, Nancy~ ~The breeze that kissed you on the face, |
