White Picket Fences

Yesterday I came to the realization
that I really don’t care anymore.

There’s beauty now where hatred once laid restless,
there’s calm that I no longer want to smash the faces in
of lovers on the screen, of those with no pain, only gain.
Now I laugh, stripping skin off skin,
numb is acceptance
and fairytales are boring, too predictable;
What a fool I’ve been, typical mass produced female
wanting the white picket fence and roses without the thorns.

Love has a funny way of picking favourites
of dealing an ugly hand to one
and supplying the white paint to others without strings.
I guess in this lifetime I’m it's puppet in play,
and now I know the sadness of becoming strangers
from the marriage that hope and I used to hold.

I used to think that everyone
had their chance to paint the white over the black,
that everyone found a love that would last,
that God understood this need, this vital kiss to survive;
What a fool I’ve been, typical mass produced dreamer
loyal to a possibility that isn't loyal to me.

But, I’ve found that God does build white picket fences afterall
and the piece from it that He's given me
is big enough, sharp pointed spear
to pierce through my heart,
white enough to soak up the blood
of dreams left to die.

Oh God Melissa..this just aches...
I do hope this is not a total reflection of you personally
and rather a wonderfully written piece of work.
Be well sweetie..be safe.

You know what? I never dreamed of white picket fences. I always thought that trouble was much more interesting. In fact- I just walked barefoot by a rosebush..and sliced my foot open..and I really could care les. sigh..yes, i L*ved this. very much. you really have a way of telling it like it is. Give yourself more credit...I'm not going to be repedative

wow... whoa ... whew ...
Oh Girl ... this is....
kicked in the chest...
up in your face ...
knock you down twice ...
taking names and kicking butt poetry!!

What a powerful angsty clever write of emotion dressed up in metaphor taken to the limit.
Very cool conception here Melis...and you carried it out to poetic perfect. You stayed with one main theme and conflict, let your pen rant and still kept it tight and on target...
I would have to say this is up there with your very best.
Superb write poetess Melibee

I LOVED it and no astericks are needed

Honeybee - you're not a fool Melissa, not a fool. Love is strange, and has strange ways. Keep those words coming, and one day they will start to change to bring forth the tenderness that is in your soft heart. I for one will be waiting to see those words...

This hurts. I hope you will find the love of your dreams someday, Melissa...
