For years I have carried certain images of my son Eddie as an infant, the beautiful bundle Eddie as a boy, gangly and gap-toothed Eddie as a teen, open and earnest This is how I would see him And each of these images swelled my heart With feelings of wonderment And feelings of inadequacy And feelings of hope Time passed, my son grew Straight and strong He thrived in spite of, or perhaps Because of my absentee influence He persevered and endeavored to succeed Through High School and College And made the most of his opportunities This baby, this boy, this teenager Had the discipline and character That I have never managed My prodigy then found love Or love found him, and found him worthy And his Lisa is just as lovely and loyal as he Together, they have made a home Filled with goodness and comfort And other rewards Yet, I still saw my son as that toddler Or that sandlot soldier Or that adolescent Together, they have made a miracle Filled with goodness and humor And other rewards They named him Justin Nourished on caring and love This new toddler carries with him The hopes and dreams of the generations That came before And together, my son and his love Lisa Made yet another miracle Filled with sweetness and grace And other rewards They named her Abbey This bright new spark carries with her The promise of a life That G-ds’ love can afford And still, I saw my son as that baby That boy That teen Then one day, while at his house Being entertained by his own son I watched my own son prepare our lunch And in that moment I finally saw him My son The man And the image filled my heart With feelings of wonderment Feelings of hope And profound pride |

A side of wranx I hadn't seen before....and I'm glad I did. Again, we walk in step, my friend....watching (my) Ed-the-younger going through his paces yesterday, thinking many of the same things. ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> |

Ed, I hope that you had a very wonderful Father's Day today. It sounds like you have a very fine family in your son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. I love this part of you, too, dear Ed. This is a wonderful poem. I especially liked this ending..... Then one day, while at his house Being entertained by his own son I watched my own son prepare our lunch And in that moment I finally saw him My son The man And the image filled my heart With feelings of wonderment Feelings of hope And profound pride I'm proud of my "little girl" and her family, too. What a gift you've given your son... to see him as adult, an equal... and do so through eyes filled with love and pride. A touching, beautiful write! |

A wonderful caring write, Ed. Having no children of my own, I have to live through the lives of others. *s M |
