The Year Four Thousand A.D.

To hear a voice or see a picture coming over the airwaves, a special room you do go, close your eyes and you can see.
Whatever you think, the news, the weather, sports,
all forms of entertainment with just a thought.
An archeological dig is under way the speaker does say.
This place must have had a terrible catastrophe centuries ago.
Everything is covered with ash and dirt we have to be careful for this is an
important find of our past.
This was once called part of a country called the
United States of America.
All records have been destroyed centuries ago, we are not even sure the
language they did speak.
Careful, careful. Look a silver disk. What could it be?
Use the tri-corder and send out amps to capture vibrations from this strange looking disk.
Listen!
Ou Wee Ou Wee Bop Bop Ou Wee Bop Bop
Rama Lama Ding Dong Bop Bop Ou Wee.
It’s going to take the wise ones years to decipher this language.
This must be their living quarters, a piece of ancient pottery,
some kind of strange design painted on it,
looks like an eye.
A small child must have lived here; it’s a tiny figure
of a girl, as the scientist picks the doll up it says to his
shock and surprise
Ma Ma Ma Ma.
Another silver disk is found
People running back and forth hitting something round.
People screaming, rah, rah, rah, jumping up and down.
Amazing they look like us, but what are they doing
and
what are they saying?
The hour is late New World we all must sleep.
Tomorrow is another day.
Until the sun rises once again.
Goodnight New World Goodnight.

I often feel like I am living the out the extrapolated thoughts of some distant archeologist who is trying to make sense of what is apparently senseless.

Thank you for sharing this poem.
