Holding burning water Freezing over in my hands Asleep inside the fodder That was sent across this land Choking countless millions As they bathe to cleanse their backs Of the lashings you once gave them Without a single whip to make them crack Like ice into the fire Cold and unforgiving You threw the blind into the battle Thinking death was their beginning See light inside the dark Look not up but from whence you came Seize the end and hold it close As you line their bodies to the lane A thousand ghosts have settled here A land from drought to dust This land of cackled cries Where even pristine heavens begin to rust I can’t believe this sadness, So dark and unbecoming, It shields the light to welcome the night As the souls fade from less to nothing If this is your visions twisted I’d hate to see them pure Untied and held never back Only limited by their allure But how can you give borders When everyone wants a piece Pain is the infatuation of the masses Who in turn will never settle for peace This land is war, And This land is dieing blood, The angels have all long since died And crawled back to the mud I can’t imagine life without death Or heaven without its hell, But when you feed straight from fear Its something just to close to home to the point where there’s no difference I can tell Its scares me sometimes to think how sublime It would be just to know this feeling of weightlessness one time, To forget all of my problems and take no pity in others, To just revel in this death filled land and give no thought as to who it smothers, I guess what frightens me the most of this place is that I’m not afraid at all, I’m not running back into a corner I’m not afraid of what might befall, I just sit back and accept, relax and let reject I see my fate as innocence, so with the time I’ll just forget, Lives are not once wasted as was death centuries ago, They’ve all been fed back into the fire, Back to the beginning we all know [This message has been edited by Gavin (07-25-2003 02:50 AM).] |

Gavin, when I read this, I was very impressed with how this poem describes our world situation today. There's much insight here, and some strong messages that require one to focus on reality. It's a brain poem, and I for one enjoy a good think now and then!! Well done!! ~V~ I speak from the Voice Of Experience |
