She said 'I do' and so did you But that doesn't mean you own her very soul A woman she will always be Not a puppet who is under your control... Her love is pure you can be sure But it's given by her choice and not demand Can you object to show respect Like you did the day your ring went on her hand? She needs to know you'll let her grow That you'll be there when she spreads her wings to fly And after all, if she should fall Your shoulder is the one on which she'll cry... You said 'I do' and she did too That's a promise that will be forevermore Though in between, it sometimes seems That a lot of give and take is what's in store... But in the end you're her best friend You're the special love she tells her secrets to And you will be through eternity For she promised, so did you On that day she said 'I Do'... The problem is that we don't see what love is really all about. We too often think selfishly, but real love isn't selfish... Great poem! “We are all travelers in the wilderness of this world, and the best that we can find in our travels is an honest friend.” –Robert Louis Stevenson |

Thank you, El_Campeador, and you are right...real love isn't selfish, but as we are all human by nature, we sometimes forget and slip. That's where communication comes in, and poetry is a great way to express yourself! So glad to see you here!! ~V~ I speak from the Voice Of Experience |

VOE Love is a two street. If one of the partners is selfish, then it certainly ruins the whole thing. Love it! Ariana |

This took a completely different turn than I expected from the first stanza, but that is why I like it so much. Great poem ![]() Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end... |

Love is definetly a twoway street and whe one doesn't meet halfway it causes friction. I like the viewpoint you gave here. angelblueyes |

Thank you Ariana, and I do so agree...too many times the love we think we have shows a different face later on. Nice to see you!! ~V~ Thank you Ladybug, and I'm glad it held surprises for you! That is nice to know! ~V~ Thank you Angelblueyes, and sometimes there has to be a bit of friction to get us out of our ruts, to make things better. It makes us or breaks us, eh? ~V~ I speak from the Voice Of Experience |

But in the end you're her best friend You're the special love she tells her secrets to And you will be through eternity For she promised, so did you On that day she said 'I Do'... VOE, this is a very good poem. I agree with "her"...communication is a major ingredient in a loving relationship. Thanks for sharing this with us. ![]() Hugs ![]() Ethel |
