Haven't written a poem in a while, too busy writing my novel, but here's something I just now wrote. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks! (after a second read, some of the rhymes aren't very good, sorry) ------------- And mother, did you marry me When I was but first born? Or rather did you spit me out, To cut me dry and torn? And father, did you carry me Through darkness as a seed? In fighting for a taste of light A man develops greed. Alive I am, nevertheless Though many years are blank I see dimly the years ahead In many dreams that sank. I’ll learn that, why, not even I Quite know why we are here, Or why we share an air to breathe And with its end we fear. But why, why is there anything? I know I know enough To know that there is more to this, This silly, wasteful rush. This life of ours that I’ll soon live I’ll die in fear of Hell Though Heaven, I know, doesn’t exist, But could I really tell? So should I grovel at this Earth, With knees and back in scrape, Or blast to sunder under me With all the hells of hate? Maybe I’ll slink into a life Of nothingness and sloth, And let the days float like candles When pulled along a cloth. Or maybe I’ll exceed in life In fame and glamour’s light. Without thinking, mindless, tireless, I’ll trudge to puissant might. But in the end these thoughts will fade And I’ll live without them A part of our society, Our sucking, tightening helm. Never will I take it off, and Let the questions come Never will be reminded To let myself succumb. So leave me alone, you questions You tempters of knowledge! Please let me be, oh clarity, Be gone so I may age. [This message has been edited by davidmerriman (07-24-2003 03:53 AM).] |
