A Valley in the Plains... |

Far from the bustle of the city, Sits a valley, O’ so pretty, With virgin soil by man unplowed, ‘Mid scenery by gods endowed. Where once the mighty hunter came, To fill his teepee with wild game, As buffalo came through the pass, To graze upon green valley’s grass. A great blue heron stands sentinel, In silent guard of hidden dell, While high above the verdant valley, I stop and pause, my weekend sally. No bison herd, no Indian brave, Stand beneath in grass’s wave, But yet I see the buffalo, In the valley far below, And I hear the warrior’s yell, As I am captured by valley’s spell. Time has come to halt my rest, And leave the top of valley’s crest, To journey home back to the city, And leave behind the valley pretty. As warriors hunt for feral feast, And bison roam where time has ceased. [This message has been edited by Tim (07-20-2003 10:17 PM).] |

Tim, this is wonderful! This type of poetry captures me in a very special way. I was southern born and raised, but I am of Cerokee Indian descent. Both of my grandparents are full-blood Cherokee, and this reminded me so much of them. My grandfather remembered the worst of times that the Indian nation went through, and poetry like this gives me fond memories of him (though he is gone) Thank you so much for sharing this with me (us) Keep up the great work. A woman has got to love a bad man once or twice in her life, to be thankful for a good one. |

We do see that... if we leave the city stop and pause and listen to the wind. So good to see this, first thing this a.m. |
