Her snow white hair felt soft like velvet Against my cheeks and hands All she kept saying between the sobs was "This isn't what I'd planned." This has been played so many times In our home over the last three years We struggle to comfort each other And constantly fight back our tears. She's stronger than steel, braver than most She's been through her share of pain Each year brings us questions of "Who's next?" "How can we go through all that again?" In 95 she lost her husband To prostate cancer, it took him fast One day they were celebrating 50 years wed, The next year he was breathing his last. In 99 she lost her older son Hurricane Floyd forced the funeral to hurry Pancreatic cancer didn't waste time She never dreamed her son she would bury. She's survived double masectomies Always beating the cancer each time And this past year her luck ran out Pancreatic cancer is claiming its dine. A call today brought more bad news Her youngest son's tests came back "Cancer of the liver, Nothing we can do Six months and he'll be breathing his last" She told me today she's giving up On her life and she can't go on One by one cancer's taking our family After a while we'll all be gone. She showed those doctors just what she's made of When they told her two months at the most Six months later she's nearing her end Her last days are looming very close. For now all I can do is be there to hug And to offer my time to my Grandmother And run my fingers through her soft velvet hair For a few months we'll have each other. *Please remember my family in your prayers tonight.* Lisa |

Some people are blessed to have a grandparent live a long and full life - that your own grandmother has endured so much tells me how strong YOU are... |
