Relentless summer heat is hanging
thick in cloudless sky
Bringing with it memories
of a bygone hot July
Sudden thoughts of you ignite
a secret hidden flame
There's nothing left to do
but pray for rain...

I pray for rain to drown the need
to see your sun-kissed face
To wash away the times we shared
within our summer place
But most of all, I pray for rain
when each new day's begun
It's hard to be without you
in the sun...

Predictions have been cast
they call for more of hot and dry
With moisture set at zero
what's this falling from my eye?
But life goes on in blazing sun
the heat lays bare the pain
It feels the perfect time
to pray for rain...

Thanks James, and so do I.  Sometimes the rain feels like it washes life clean to new beginnings, too.

Here's hoping for a brand new fresh start!

The poem was quite weel written it makes one think of a world of freedom where no longer do our beasts of burden haunt us, and we feel like we could take on the world even for that single moment.

I pray for rain to drown the need

To wash away the times we shared

But most of all, I pray for rain
when each new day's begun
It's hard to be without you
in the sun...

This is superb poetry...wonderful employ of rhyme, imagery, personify and extended metaphor to carry out your intended theme..
the repetative line worked perfectly.
Excellent writing..welcome to poetry land...
so nice to have you here with us.

Welcome to PIP. I hope you will be blessed here.

We've gotten a lot of rain the past week here in Ohio. We don't really need anymore

Good poem. I enjoyed reading this.

Just wanted to let you know that your replies and warm welcomes are very much appreciated by this poetess, and I thank you!
Also, to those of you who are drowning in your weather, I promise to stop doing my rain dance now, even though where I am is hot, hot, hot!!
It's a joy to be here, to share with you all, and have the opportunity to make good friends with very talented writers.

Thank you once again......
