there were shadows trailing the spokes of the wheel
drawn efficiently on the pavement
by the moonlight
the chain needed oil
it clawed at dry teeth

somewhere in a 3rd story apartment
lights were dimming
wineglasses were resting silently
atop smoked glass
in the after hours

you just chase the dogs tail
and erase the city blocks
whistling your broken tune

the air is crisp
and promising
it fills your lungs with vigor
and vinegar

no destination
is out of reach
unlike the woman you covet

she lies between soaked sheets
with a strangers heartbeat bearing down on her
he whispers profound things
things that will pass through
without nourishment
she doesn’t care
one way or the other
as long as there is no room
for thought

somewhere along the trail
you turn back

in the end
home
is the only place
you want to be

loved the part about strangers' heartbeats...
*sigh*
I think I can make a whole other poem inspired by that one part.

Loved this..and I wish it weren't buried.

You could hurt me with your bare hands. You could hurt me using the sharp edge of what you say. JEWEL

I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly dreaming I am a man.
