Laguna

The drums beat below the window
out over the lingering children
challenging the crashing waves
syncopated hands of graceful birds

The noisome crowd abides
the streets torn by countless feet
as windows cower from eyes
and pretty pastels wash the gallery

Along the shoreline the lounges line up
waiting the bronzing of summer
torn between the stacked buckets waiting children
and high tide

Past midnight in the quiet
one voice rises in joyful laughter
pledging to gather the dark
into a spirit quest

Quickly Ratleader grabs the first reply, then goes back to edit in his comments..... May I be the first to tell you what an excellent poem this is.... I've been to exactly this place, and you captured the spirit of it in these beautiful images.... I've never spent the night there as you did, but this makes me wish I had.
