A late-night love song finds an airwave, a breath, of a radio coasting 40 downtown A girl just seventeen finds the heartbeat of a boy four years older looking backwards for a smile down a country road he remembers being young when teenage angst punctured friends but not him ‘til now. Irony, a word he’s used often writing brilliant, bland essays at university now finds a shape in the face of this love, Rebecca. Not her name, of course -looks good on the page if she were to see it and laugh like a girl of seventeen can laugh. The pen’s going nowhere Stalls with the car at red lights But wait. -That’s the turning: brakes slow to gravel and stop in the driveway, a home with the light left on were he to come back late with tears in his eyes unexpectedly He sleeps in a fairytale ending in a verse just too honest too sad. but he’ll wake in the morning with that song in his head and he’ll tell her he loves her. She’s glad. (applause) (curtain-down) (exits to your right and left) but move quietly, please don’t wake him. he’s in love. |

Never wake someone up from love. It should last as long as possible. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |

Great poem. It reminded me of Avril Lagvine's song skater boi. Keep on writting. I hope to see you visit my posts in this forum. They are called Super Sydney and Overwhelming pain. |
