Once Upon A Time

He was once upon a time a sensible man-
He dressed in his conservative suits of black,
gray and brown.
Ties made of the finest silk
Shoes to match each suit made of the softest leather.

He was once upon a time a sensible man-
He’d stand and gaze at the men around him
and
look down his aristocratic nose.
He would think how uncouth these men with their
cream colored suits and rich silky blues.
Wearing flamboyant ties of bright red and flashy yellow.
Cream colored shoes; pale blues shoes and black patent leather.
No taste he would say, no taste.

He was once upon a time a sensible man.
He would never hum a silly little tune or whistle in the shower
because it was beautiful day.
Stop and smile at a little child in the park
or
stop and smell a delicate daffodil.

He was once upon a time a sensible man.
He would give the gift of practicality
No nonsense or frivolity.
This sensible man no warmth or love held in his
heart made of stone, only practical sensibility.

He was once upon a time a sensible man.
He sits and gazes into the warm glowing fire
and wonders about his life.
An ache he does feel, but he does not understand this feeling he is feeling.
He closes his eyes and shuts out this empty longing-
This feeling of wishing he had someone to hold
and
someone to envelop with warm caring love.
For he is a practical, sensible man.
