From stone to rubble, to grits of sand. Beneath the hourglass flowing white. From clay to dirt to soil brown hand. A task in toil, the tiller’s plight. Each furrowed row a golden till beside the rock strewn pastures edge. While morning sun burns dew born chill from tiny leaves the wild grown hedge. As soil becomes the dust beside the road to ends beyond the curve. A roiling wind heckles and chides the patient man of farm wrought nerve. For of the seed, the falling rain shall bring to rise and feel the blade of sickle’s swath through golden grain where children laughed and farmers prayed And as the crop is shorn the land beyond the hedge and furrowed row. A new year waits just as is planned before the reap becomes the sow. |

My dad was a farm boy...it never left him. His backyard is full of tomatoes, peppers, onions, and assorted vegetables...even has fruit trees back there. It sure saves on my grocery bills during the summer. LOL Good write, Barry. Patricia |

Great write Barry. Makes me wonder just what we would do without our patient, hard working farmers. Seems their day never ends. Bless them. hugs, Chris "Said you'd give me light... |

Hello Magnus This brought back memories of what my father told me about his life growing up on a farm in Sweden with 13 siblings. I have a picture of my Grandfather ploughing the field with the horse and your words reminded me of this. Thank you for the memories. Take care......Sue I am in motion |

this was so lovely, and brought back many very lovely memoires, smells, sounds of the farm...two of my uncles raised horses and trained, the other two raised black angus and white faced herfords, it was a free and hardworking but most profetic and profound substantial life, filled with many smiles. Your poems are incredible, taking the reader to those very special places in time. Thank you kindly. |

Magnus...An excellently crafted poem. Very different subject than you usually write; but I thought it had depth and power in its words. Definitely a five-star poem!!!! ***Ivy Rose |
