My friend and i are always having some argument or another, one that was pretty interesting was is black a color? I was wondering becasue there are so many things it could or couldn't be. Is it in fact anything at all or is it just the absence of any and everything? Is black nothing? Is black everything rolled into one blob of virtually everything? or is it just a color? or could it be in the view of the beholder, it can mean whatever the hell i want it to if i want it badly enough? I believe I learned in school many many moons ago that white is the absence of all color and that black is all the colors combined. |

It really just depends on what type of colour mixing you use. If you use subtractive mixing, then black is the absense, but if you use additive mixing black is everything combined. But, you must remeber the colour black doesn't really exist (according to some artists) but is rather a deep shade of blue. |

if you look at the seven primary colours..red yellow orange green blue indigo and violet; where is black? I thought white was all colours combined and black was all colours removed. But hey, if you create your own reality (as Seth said) it's whatever you want it to be. |

but moondog, you don't create your own reality. That's why colorblind people sometimes run red-lights. Stephen |

There are only three primary colors. Black is an insinuation of the future. "Well I wish that you would cheat with someone, 'cause you're like diggin' holes in water and we know that can't be done." |

It depends on who you ask and the context. The scientific answer is that black is the absence of colour, to be more precise black is the absence of reflected light across the visible spectrum, however in everyday use black is classified as a colour for descriptive purposes. |

Yes. Black is the unbrightest colour. |

"Yes. Black is the unbrightest colour." Well, glad we got that settled. Onward and upwards. "Well I wish that you would cheat with someone, 'cause you're like diggin' holes in water and we know that can't be done." |

I tried to play that word (unbrightest) on my computer scrabble game, and it got ditched. Drat! That would've been a bingo too! I lost the game to the word "darkest". The nerve. All in fun Ess. Stephen |
