On Hope, Charity and Faith Doubt leaves plenty of room for HOPE, sometimes CHARITY is necessary, and without FAITH in something what do have? ~~~kingsangel~~~ |

John, Without faith, you couldn't rightly believe in reality, over and against unreality. Without faith, "unadulterated" reason might lead you to believe that you don't even exist and that you can't trust your senses at all (if you don't believe that, do a quick survey of Western Philosophy, especially the part following the post-enlightenment hangover). Yes there is faith in God. But faith trickles down into common things as well, as purely necessary. To say that religious faith is fanciful doesn't do justice to the more ordinary kind of faith you practice almost hourly ... A difference in degree, I think, not kind. Stephen. |

"A difference in degree, I think, not kind." That was a very good reply Stephen. Without hope we are empty, without charity we are alone, and without faith we begin to lose hope. "No one now dies of fatal truths, there are to many antidotes to them."- Nietzche |

I have to admit, Ron nailed that one. And a quote by Confucius comes to mind: "Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance." Head Cheese & Chicken Feet |

Thank you all for replying And I am wondering about wisdom being an illusion or even something we chase, or is forced upon us by age? What is a man who grows old yet has no wisdom even more of a fool then? HMMM ~~~kingsangel~~~ |

A pervert? I'm sorry. That doesn't only apply to older men. Or men. Or anyone really. I don't know why I said that. It was the first thing that popped into my mind. Cartoon characters can be perverts. I don't belong in philosophy. I weird myself out. |
