“At the airport, friends and family members of the missing climbers put their hands on one of two Blackhawk helicopters preparing to join the search and prayed.”

OK, So if God gives now two climbers the break he didn’t give six million
Jews what would that say about Him?

to me, and for me, it doesn't say anything...I don't believe God interviens...simply put, he gives us life and allows us to do with it as we please, it is all our choice...or the choice of others, like say those who murder.  Unfortunately...life then is shortened....but I believe God in His divine grace, loves us so much...but allows.

this is most unfortunate for the families of these men, but it was their choice to seek out their adventure....dangerous or not.

It's like when we're driving down the highway and someone crosses the median and hits us...that is not God's fault, nor is disease or bad happenings...it's just the way of life, good and bad, negative and positive.

Hugs...and Merry Christmas

LeeJ,  I'm certainly not of the persuasion that God must always intervene in order to be vindicated.  Nor am I persuaded, as John might put it, that God is so other and removed that he needs no vindication, and that therefore, we need not expect anything at all.

But I did want to point out that if God never intervenes, then "Christmas" would have never occured.

Your inclination is Deism, to which "grace and mercy" are euphemisms for impersonal processes that happen to benefit us.  John, I'll bet, is saying that such detachment makes the whole idea of personal worship futile.  Your statement hasn't refuted his charge of God's irrelevancy.  Rather it has confirmed it.

My answer to this thread later ...

BTW, Merry Christmas to you too Lee.

Stephen.

That's strange.

All the sudden the title to this thread is showing up as:

"God’s Sadness "

Anyone else getting that?  It wasn't like that earlier.

Me:

I had to correct (or at least clarify) myself here.  In this thread John's charge against God seems to be either injustice, or capriciousness.  But I have heard the charge of irrelevancy before.  That's usually where it goes after someone responds to the allegation of injustice by insisting that God need not do anything at all.  I could be reading him wrong (just trying to see the whole picture from all of his posts about God), but it seems that that's where he's trying to go.  And that was my point to Lee as well.

more later,

Stephen.

Essorant,

"Babel" is man's enterprise not God's.
