A friend recently hypnosised myself and two other people so that we would remember an important event from our past lifes. Everyone of us saw a scene and was able to describe the details. Except me.... I saw images, these images are not normally what I might think about or see, I also felt an emotional connection to these images. I do believe that what I saw was a revelation of sorts. I am interested to hear people's thoughts on this. |

I don't understand the question. Hypnosis doesn't free you from the basic restraints from being human, it does not increase the ability to be certain one bit -- false memories are just as easily conjured up as hidden ones. I wouldn't place too much significance to it I guess. Of course, if it helps you write better poetry, go for it. Brad |

From what I've read on hypnosis, very few people are actually able to enter a true hypnotic state. I agree with Brad that one dabbling in hypnosis should be wary of the possibility of false memories. Jim |

I'm not sure if you're interested in our thoughts on hypnotism, revelations, or both. I hope I don't sound like Professor Corey ![]() remarks about your topic. You don't tell us what credentials your friend has pertaining to hypnotism or mind enhancment. You don't say whether you were all three considering the same event in your lives or separate events. You say that the images you saw were not ones that you normally see. Does that mean that you saw them before, but under abnormal conditions, or are they completly new to you? My experiences with hypnotism are not the best, but I'll share them. I once used a form of hypnotism called animal magnetism on young girls and it seemed to mesmerise them. When I met my wife, and tried to use it on her, she de-gaussed me, applied her own hypnotism, and I've been mesmerised for about fifty-five years. ![]() I've had three revelations in my lifetime. A cross between Ho Chi Minh and Foo Man Chu, visits me when I'm asleep, occasionally. I can describe the Palmer House Hotel marble floors, stairways, and mezzinine check-in area in greatest detail, but I've never been there.(Chicago) I thought I had a Theological revelation once, when I sat bolt upright in bed and experienced this blinding yellow light that seemed to totally engulf me. My doctor said it was a free embolism in my head. I'll end this with a question that doesn't need answering... Why in hell would a person let anyone enter their greatest treasure to enhance it, chemically, or otherwise? Sorry, if my contribution doesn't help. Jan... ![]() |

Ok sceptics lol, well I guess what I am saying is that I believe that is was my sub conscious talking to me. When I said that it is not what I normally see, when I dream or close my eyes the images are different and certainly less vivid, and I don't develop any emotional attachment to them, that is what surpised me. we all saw different things, everyone else seemed to have been able to describe themselves, see their surrounding and interact. MIne were images, but ones that I would not connect with my present life. I saw images and they were extremely vivid. Yes like a drug trip I guess but with out chemical assistance, and no drugs were taken during or anywhere near the time of the vision I had. The most powerful thing I took any time near my vision was vitamin c tablets. I am guess saying that in a relaxed state could I not have seen something, even dreams have signifance, they are hardly false memories. Granted they are hardly premitions but have seeds of reality non the less. The brain and soul have many layers. "Build a man a fire, he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life". Terry Pratchett [This message has been edited by brian madden (edited 06-27-2001).] |

What exactly were these "images" that you saw? A lot of imagery in dreams is not normal either. How do you know you weren't simply viewing symbols of some sort representing your current life situation? |
