What is love? No, seriously - what IS IT???? You say I love her and I love him, how do you know? Is caring for a person (not wanting them to hurt) the same as love? When you say "I love my parents" do you really LOVE them, or just respect and care for them? Does loving a person mean you would be willing to risk your life for them? I really am confused! Give me a few hints!

Love, as everything else in this world comes in many degrees, from the basest love of self to the highest of unconditional love for all created things. Most of us have the first but only a few exalted ones like St. Francis have the second. You must determine the scope of your own love. Uncircumscribed love is grand and is the precursor of great joy and true enlightenment. Selfish love, whether for self or conditional love for another(loving someone as long as it makes you feel good)often causes pain.

I agree with lenny that there are many degrees of love that exists. We forget about unconditionnal love because it forever bound to our heart and is everlasting. We love our parents and our siblings in this way. No we do not want them to hurt. Yes they sometimes hurt us but there is a forever connection that we are unnable to deny.
Then there are our firends. Love and hate coexist and feelings change. This love can be momentary but the memory of this love makes it everlasting.
Then there all the lovers that we associate to experience. We lern from these souls and with everyone that we meet...we grow, we change and we come closer to finding our true selves. I like to think of these souls as all the ones ( there were too many and they unavoidedly brought on regrets) that prepared me for mine.
And one day you wake up to love. The purest and most enchanting feeling of all. Poets have been trying to capture its essence for ever and still...no one understands the greatness of it until they fall to their knees. You simply know that there will be no other in your lifetime that can connect to you as this one. That never have you known true happiness before he lay his hands on you in that certain way. Love makes you melt...

Now love is a perceptual thing that everyone lives differently and that no one can judge. You can choose to take this explanation and throw it away thinking that this is basically all a load of crap. Maybe it is for I can only talk from my heart and my experience and not for others. There is no explanation for love. It just is and we should accept its beauty because it only lasts a moment then it is gone.

So love Delilah... let yourself love everything and anything that catches your eye. I love hot water...I love the ocean... I love my dog... I love my parents and my brother... I love strawberries... I love my garden... I love my studies... I love my life... I love my lover... And all these cliches... they make me happy... they make me who I am. Eaven if I can only be for that moment, the next moment promises something other to love...
Maybe this was stupid but love is so important and it is something that must be believed, to be.
