There might well be such a thing as a good or bad poem, but I'd like to think that is quite different from the poet.

A Good poem is a poem that just is...
A bad poem is that poor poem which never lives.
A poem grows like a seed.
You must take it out of its package
Place it down
Give it a chance to live by the light of the readers eye.
Always write them down.
Plant them with a smile
It's the chance itself that will make them good!
A good poet is a happy farmer  < !signature-->

i personally think that all poets are good within their respective natures though what some write may be cliched, or too general contain simple images, ect. though they might not capture a large audience...that certainly doesnt entail that their poetry is bad per se..., and keep in mind whom that person's audience is
...however i think the intent of the question is to ask, what makes a good poet, so much so that there is a general consensus that says...yes Edgar Allan POE is considered a good poet...with that in mind...then i would have to say that perhaps one has to realize what makes poetry work...u know fresh concepts...fresh imagery, and of course..practice    i mean not all the poems by the greatest poets are at their pinnacle best (hope thats a word) ...some critics would say that they could have done it better...those are my thoughts anyway
