It was just the other day I was stopped along my way By a lady with hair of gray, “I know you, I think”, she said, “When my hair was colored red, It’s been years and years ago, I think you’re someone I know” I looked into those aged eyes And to my great surprise I found I knew her years before, But she didn’t look the same anymore. Time had worn the color out And rearranged things about She didn’t walk with the same sway Her body hung a different way, Time had pulled her slowly down Wrinkles surrounded eyes of brown Even her voice had a different sound Not as lyrical as it was before Time had on her not casually wore. I admitted I was he who That she had once knew And that I was still just the same Even if I’d changed my name She chuckled caused so had she Twice married and twice a divorcee With three children from different men Grown, gone and now alone again. She smiled I smile I remembered well But the conversation slowly fell And I wished her a good day Because I had to be on my way, She gave me her new name and number Written hastily on a scrape of paper Which I folded into my pocket And left her there in the mall With the number she told me to call. I left to go back to work for the afternoon A long day didn’t end too soon With darkness I returned through my door, To eat, to wash, and to sleep once more. Days passed and there was that paper On the end table with her number With coins from that day at the mall Beside the phone waiting to call Days had passed and I had forgot it The number she told me to call The memory revived in the mall. I like this Prof Gloom...you always seem to come up with 'off the wall' schtuff that makes one think....(and for me, that's damn near a miracle) |

Thank you, Toerag, You praise me highly, But I believe you are a fine thinker, It is just your poetic thoughts tend to be toward Balladeer And how to jab him. Then your thoughts are mirthful and mischievous. Gloom |

Oh, Gloom, how this touched me so. Did you call her? Is this a true story? And how many times have I run into someone while out shopping and thought to myself..."my how they have aged"....only to look into a mirror at myself and think..."who is this woman?" This story will touch alot of people, I am certain. hugs, Chris ![]() "Hope" is the thing with feathers- |

Thank you, Justbleu, Pleased you enjoyed Thank you Seymour, Glad you liked this It means a lot coming from someone as talented as you. Thank you, Nightshade, Yes it is a true story and no I never did call I find most women my age are now talking about their Grandchildren. I try to avoid aging and looking into mirrors Your praise is very kind Gloom |
