It is has been four years since I started writing poetry and posting at Passions. As some might be aware I write about Roses a tad. Once a year I write about a special rose of mine named Connie. Two and thirty years ago, I turned to her and said, I will be your evermore, as in the church we wed, We started on a life together, our journey had begun, Me a boy not yet a man, a husband had become. Working, playing, loving, fighting; as we found our way, Down the path of evermore, unto this very day. I often said we’d have to wait, until the kids were grown, To have the things that “We” both wanted, had I only known, But now I know now we’re alone, four children on their own, That all the time we had “it” all, from seeds that had been sown, Two and thirty years ago, when she became my wife, I gained a mate, a family, I gained a perfect life. And now we stand here still as one, me and fairest Rose, She remains my one true love, she is my heart’s disclose, Ahead the journey twists and turns, as has the way before, As we continue on our path, as one to evermore. It seems as if was yesterday that she became my wife, Forever and forevermore, she will be my life, One and thirty years ago, we were joined as one, One and thirty years ago, our journey was begun, Four children born; two girls, two boys, Times of sorrows, times of joys, And all the while we stood together, In brightest sun and darkest weather, She is my friend, my confidante, My every need, my every want, My midnight lover, my heart's disclose, She is my wife, my perfect rose. I do not want a perfect wife, ...a buxom Barbie doll, I'll take my mate with hint of strife, ...who yells when I don't call. When first wakes up, can be a grouch, ...can give the evil eye, When she's irate, I get the couch, ...I oft' times wonder why. She can burn a scrambled egg, ...and likes to have her way, I often think she likes to beg, ...to get my hard earned pay. But late at night, when she's asleep, ...I gaze upon her there, I know down deep, that I will keep, ...her in my heart for ever. When I'm in trouble she's nearby, ...to be there by my side, I know for me that she would die, ...together we have cried. The more I think upon my life, ...my not so perfect wife, Notwithstanding, occasional strife, ...I have a perfect wife. For thirty years she’s been the one, …the one who is my rose, The one without, I could not live, …my wife, my heart’s disclose. It seems like only yesterday, ...I took you as my wife, Yet it seems forever, ...you have been my life. Nine and twenty years ago, ...I took your hand in mine, Gazed into your deep brown eyes, ...and vowed I would be thine. Looking back in retrospect, ...we were far too young to wed, High school sweethearts still in school, ...would never work they said, Starting out with cupboards bare, ...we built a life as one, We rose each morning hand in hand, ...and faced the rising sun. Four children born, four children grown, ...I love you even more, Than a day so long ago, ...I'll love you evermore. I sit beneath green canopy .....In shade of towering oak, Reflecting on the paths not took .....Of words I've never spoke. I gaze above at shimmering leaves .....As sun's light filters through, Oasis in the summer heat .....Beneath the sky so blue. I hear sweet songs of nightingale .....Upon the summer breeze, And see the dance of Terpsichore .....Amongst the oaken leaves. Within the limbs a universe .....Protected by oak's boughs, And on this beauteous summer day .....Majestic oak allows... A simple man to touch the gods .....In boughs of nature's grace Allowed in splendor to repose .....In this, gods' special place. In summer of my eighteenth year .....I took you as my wife, For eight and twenty years you've been .....The tree that shades my life. [This message has been edited by Tim (06-08-2003 12:17 AM).] |

First congratulations on your 4th year milestone, but most importantly on being so in love that this beautiful poetry comes out to share with us. If it is your anniversary Tim, congratulations to you and Rose, these are going to be the best years yet to come |

You know you are getting old when you read something you read before and forget you read it! Thanks for reposting this Tim, and the funny thing was I picked the exact same passage to highlight LOL. Again, Happy Anniversary to you both, being each other's climbing arbor is what makes it all work. |

Tim I read this again after my husband and I renewed our vows...yesterday, after 25 years. We had a wonderful celebration. Your poem is so special! |
