James, from Nan's Poetry Workshop, a Rictameter is,

quote:
...a scheme similar to Cinquain.

Start your first line with a
two syllable word, then consecutively increase the number of syllables
per line by two - 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 Then down again, 8, 6, 4, 2 Making the final
line the same two syllable word with which you began.

Voila!
So much fun can
be found in performing
different styles - Rictameter
being one!  It forms a nice diamond
appearance from 2, 4, 6, 8,
to ten, 8, 6, 4 2 ~
magic is found!
Voila!

Thanks everyone for your help and your kindness about this:

Just like healing...learning is a process, too.  So, I had to make a big fat giant mistake in front of everyone.  Oh well, I learned a valuable lesson and now I am going to the classroom.  Better go there before I attempt a Haiku, huh?  LOL

At least I am laughing about this...the old me would have hid away and would have never come back...or at least I would have changed my name because of my ignorance. LOL

Gotta laugh about this one...

Patricia,

I enjoyed this.  The style is new to me also.  Maybe I will make an attempt at this soon.

Patricia, this was a very pretty poem.
I enjoyed reading it.
About the form, there are some of the forms back in the classroom that I just can't seem to get. You are an excellent writer, so you will learn them, I know. And, write them with lots more meaning than I do, I'm sure.

I'm glad I was part of your inspiration, though.

AND for the first week you get to clean the erasers ... but, after that ... we get to play on the playground ... and that's oodles of fun !
(Ya' gotta turn in your homework first ... but I hafta admit ... ya' learn LOTS and LOTS of new forms) Shhhhh, don't tell Teach I said that ...

Join me on the merry-go-round.

Aha! I found it! This poem is so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes--literally! I have gone through a similar process and you have expressed it so incredibly well. I read the replies that this lovely poem has gotten, and as you can see, it was well-received. As far as the rictameter form, Sunshine and Marge have kindly laid out the format for you. I think it is marvellous that you are joining the workshops! I have not done that as yet, but I most likely will at some time!
As far as your comment re you making a boo boo in front of the world! LOL Welcome to the club! We all (well most of us!) do! It is all part of the growing process as a writer! I have learned soooooo much through trial and error! Like you, I used to take things too seriously and I might have had to lick my wounds when I made a faux pas, but both you and I are not taking ourselves as seriously now and life is so much easier and enjoyable! Go with the flow and enjoy the ride!
Again, I must say how much I enjoyed your poem--it was full of heart, soul--and truth!

Warm hugs for a warm heart,
Linda

and here I thought a rictameter was a device to measure how much wood one had stacked up for the winter...

nice thoughts Patricia...and whether it fit form or not, it is a nice piece... I enjoyed

Hey Patricia...now it's YOUR turn to encourage Earth Angel to get her fanny into Poetry Workshop...not that she needs it or anything, but you know the old saying...the more the merrier!
