The Final Round

He enters the ring tasting
iron ridden beads
of blood sweat
before the bell

The typically clamoring crowd
ridicules with an abrupt
round of quiet
convinced all along
he can not win.

Salted tears jab
aimlessly at this
giant champion
as his own faltering
hands drop away
and fail to protect.

Solid ground sends
a muffled goodbye
round of quilted
sportsmanship
to a defeated
challenger
bound to a hapless fate

But then he rises

He stumbles beyond
what is expected, forgoing
what has occurred, transcribing
what came before
onto a relinquished
writing tablet.

knowing only that
this time he leaves
the ring with bloody
eyes and burning skin
ready to fall into a rainy
night sleep

His champion-hand held
above his throbbing head
-and more than that-
on his own two feet.

I really liked this alot. I like the way he goes down and then gets back up refusing to lose the fight. Great poem.

Welcome to Passions.
Who, if not a boxeur, knows the depth of defeat? Born to resist and rise again ... may we all remain on our feet, whatever happens.
Very well written!

loner-23 Thank you. This getting back up after being beaten is something that only the truest "fighters" can do. I like to hope I will leave this world on my own two feet....  :}

Margherita,

Yes, a friend of mine once said it is not how you enter the round but how you leave the fight that matters in the end. This rings so true. Thank you for your comments.

Kristy:

amazing sight you have . . .
and am proud of you
good good - stay on those feet
or moreso - get back up after you fall

clothes get dirty from time to time
but dirt washes off . . .
hard as it may seem at times to stand -
I know . . .

amazing write btw
xxoo

(sigh) Yep, I'm a lover not a fighter, but angels have the right to "fight" too if for what is right and for the good of our children and love, "fighting" with our words and music! (big hugggsssssss) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Kristy, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!
