~*A Birthday Un-Sonnet*~

I tried to write a poem just for you
On this, the anniversary of your birth
I told my muse just what she ought to do
To spin a rhyme of happiness and mirth

I asked her, 'please', to tell you just how much
Your friendship means on this, and every, day
To let you know you're loved by all you touch
Sincere appreciation to convey

I asked her not just once, nor even twice
To pen a gift of verse for you, my friend
I hinted that a sonnet would be nice
And hoped my stubborn muse would comprehend

With rebel grin, she looked at me and said...
'Nope!'
