I toil with hands
bloodied, caked with crimson.
Ignoring looks which flash repugnant,
screaming to clean this soiled soul
fouling the world with vile stench.

Instead I wallow on in filth.
Reminded of countless crimes
wrought by selfishness and greed,
weighed down by a million regrets.

Then she comes along.
In hers eyes only questions,
so I shove these decrepit claws
right in her face.

Expecting her to turn away,
she merely bathes them in tears.
Now I look at these same hands,
trying to remember all that's faded away.

All I can see is her lovely face,
and despite my attempts to push her away.
her sweet words beckon me to stay.

...Now I put my hands to better use.

When love comes in,
there is so much healing done...

Your hands did well,
as did your muse, and your pen...

Thank you Mike!

Mike....A poem of truth and finding the place where love existed, love healed. LOVE COVERS A MULTITUDE OF SINS AND SETS US FREE TO BE ACCEPTED FOR WHO WE ARE. I'm happy you have found that kind of love. ***Ivy Rose

Ivy Rose,
Thank you, but this is more of a hopeful poem than everything, permit me a little fantasy

Mike,
I cry tears of happiness for you.  Let her tears of love bathe your soul.  You need her...you deserve her love.  Hold her with your arms and softly stroke her cheeks with your hands...the hands she had made clean.

Patricia,
I wish I could respond as you would like, but alas, this is more of a wishful poem than anything else. A dream if you well, and one which has not yet come to fruition. Sorry Patricia.

Startime55,
Thank you, but I feel a bit foolish. People are so used to me expressing me true emotions here, they do not understand: I DID NOT FIND THIS PERSON! These are my true emotions though, because I long for this person, I yearn for this person, I LOVE this person, though I haven't even met her yet. Sad and pathetic, isn't it? Oh well that's me.

Dear Mike, you write powerfully and the reader identifies with your words. That’s why we think you have really experienced this and indeed you have on the level of your mind. And you know that our thoughts will manifest in reality ……… so you have sort of called her into life …. she is on the path I am sure ….
But don’t be too hard on you ……forgive yourself for whatever you think you must be forgiven and feel light! Anyway I love your vision of cleansing and healing tears, that’s so beautiful!
Much love, Margherita

Margherita,
Oh your words have me floating here for the moment. Don't know why exactly but they do. And I am glad.

Thanks for the smilies      , but I much prefer your presence truthfully. I am so grateful that you have chosen to grace me with it once again!

   Mike

Oh and I kind of maybe wrote this a little bit about someone in my life if that makes any sense LOL In other words, she may become the person of who I wrote, but she isn't yet. But maybe one day I don't know. But I dream...

See? Like I said, after the darkness comes out in your art, the light starts to flow into it.....In a year you'll look back at this poem as part of a transition. Well done.

Ratleader,
Thank you. I think you may be right. I do feel a sort of transition slowly forming in my poetry lately, which is of course a reflection of myself   I hope you ARE right!

         Mike

I haven't even felt a twinge of the suicidal in over four days now! If it lasts the week I think I shall have to mark it down as a major event LOL
