* Hiding behind the silk screened imagery, searching for the reality of me, peeling away layers of superficiality getting down to the core... It’s not easy to rid myself of this masquerade, all the cover-ups I hide behind that make me more ...presentable. Who wants to see the real me? Certainly not the viewers of modern TV. Not even the local grocery store clerk or the trash collector jerk who gawks and stares at me as if I were an untouchable porcelain doll whose place in life should be to sit smiling quietly upon a dusty shelf. Stars. You’d think there were enough of the real ones dangling there up in the ebony skies above, that you wouldn’t need to fabricate them and throw them all over the planet in search of a new supermodel, a new idol. My body is no longer my own or God’s design, but that of some surgeon’s designer dream model. How did I lose sight of the real me? *** written from the POV of an unhappy 'starlet' after watching some ET show about plastic surgery no, I haven't gone under the knife |

I wonder.... if that's the way they really feel...? It must be, eh? Hmmm.... Good write, I enjoyed getting into someone's head on this subject |

Hey there Skyfire! Hope you're having a relaxing weekend. Thanks for the reply. Yes, some will no doubt love the new person that emerges from the knife, and some will probably wonder where they left their brains (or other body parts) |

From what I've read of you, dear writing friend You've shown us how you feel without pretend Its brave of you, I think, to be so open And for your joy with life, I'm always hopin' We always wonder at those only see our shell. Are they real? Or just dreams. Nice write, 'sun, it is always a pleasure. Ken Through rubble and trouble and dark of night |

Ken, thanks for your creative reply! You've alwasy got a poem up your sleeve, and I enjoy your spontaneity. Julie, thank you! yes, I agree. I don't even wear any makeup. And of course I look my age (50+?) and I must admit some days I wonder what I'd do if I had money to waste and a bigger ego...would I do it too? Probably not. But ask me again when I'm 70. |
