Shh... Don'tTell Nan (yet) - Justin Needs Your Help... This morning, half awake, I heard a noise unknown to me, I thought I was still dreaming, but it was reality. A voice resounded through the 'Stute, demanding to create A poem for Nancy, 'cause her Birthday's on the 28th . . "A poem for Nancy Ness?" I cried, "I rather would go blind! First Lady of these pages blue! - you surely lost your mind! How will I ever find the words to tell her what she means To all the poets here at PIP - Nan is the Queen of queens! The queen of hearts and even more the queen of poetry, To even try to equal that would be insanity! And tell me where to find the words to thank her for the time She puts into the Workshop, teaching rhythm, form and rhyme? Oh please give me a break, it's perfect she deserves, no less, And I am known to turn a poem into a witty mess." "Ok, you've made your point, but on a poem I must insist, So go and ask your fellow poets kindly to assist, 'Cause each might have some words to write, some free verse, some in rhyme And if you do it right away, you might be just in time To please this special Lady with a poem the 28th ; A Birthday gift from all of you, now go and have some fate!" So poets here I stand and ask for help in my despair, For writing Nan a Justin poem seems anything but fair. I end my plea with wishing Nan: "Good Health and Happiness, And Happy Birthday dearest friend, we love you Nancy Ness.  Justin Genius |

A birthday poem for teacher Nan, Ah heck, sure, I don't give a damn. I'll make a fool of myself in rhyme, For Nan, I'd do that any old time!  The Queen of Passions deserves to be, On a pedestal for her birthday you see. I've seen the hours she gives without thought, And hey, this is cheaper than any card bought! A sonnet is what I would like to write, Since that's the form that gives you most delight, But I'm not Shakespeare, or a Sonneteer, Nor am I Robert Burns, or Balladeer. I called upon the Doc to help me please, 'Cause Doctor Moose writes sonnets with such ease, And to my shame this rhyme scheme is a mess, But Doc's out on a date with GyspiNess. I hoped to find a nut to spice this verse And asked a free verse from the Crachet Nurse, But she replied: "Before the 28th I have to iron all the jackets strai(gh)t." Poetry Fairy with a magic wand, She flutters over our pages blue. She rhymes with ease and words fly from her pen, And she tries to show us what to do. Some of us get the "dunce"'s hat for rhyme, Our meter doesn't make an ounce of sense. But she tells us that we'll be just fine, And pulls us gently off the playground fence. Nan, There was a rose that bloomed in May as flowers are wont to do, and everything about that rose, reminded me of you. She was so sweet, just as you are Her beauty had no peer, Her charm was irresistible, and truly oh so rare. I'm sorry I was late for your birthday party. Hope you enjoyed your day and I wish you many happy returns. Now I guess a suitable tribute to a lady who is acknowledged by everyone to be so wonderful, is to finish that poem.
