Midnight strolls
sleeplessly wandering
toward the end of the pier
stepping lightly over weathered slats
gathering up the day
peaking through cracks
where the sea lies calm in peaceful simplicity
the moon slanting sideways
shines undercover in silver ripples
and all is still along the shoreline
beneath quiet swells
after the sun's gone down
a thousand times like before
the boardwalk stretches out
emptying into the silence
nightcapping the view
like a necklace of lights
beyond the dark ocean
crested white~

Aw, Bluesie you do know how to set a mood.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Smiling here, as I substituted the spelling of midnight, and still found much truth and beauty in this write.

BluesSerenade, what another wonderful poem!

You really took me back to a real favorite place of mine...

The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk...

I especially have fond memories of my youth, driving out to the adjacent Municipal Pier at night...

Sometimes to do some fishing...

And sometimes to just hang out...

I would watch the people on the Giant Dipper as they would slowly get pulled up the first initial peak, and then hear their high pitched shrills as the Roller coaster plummeted down...

And I would listen to the Merry Go Round, amidst the breaking waves, and the sound of couples whispering to each other, as they walked by, hand in hand...

It was almost like I was waiting for something...

Or someone...

I can picture myself right now, standing on that pier, looking at all the lights of the waterfront through a light fog, with nothing more then the rolling tide, and my wandering thoughts to keep me...

And I can almost smell that salty ocean air right now, as a lone seagull’s shriek, fades away, in the distance...

Thanks for bringing back, such a nice feeling BluesSerenade...

I really needed that right now,

Richy

Lori,

Such a picture you have painted here. I can feel the mist of gentle sprays, hear the laps of waves, you've put us there. The imagery here is fantastic.

Enjoyed greatly,

Hugs and love, Pat

(smiles) Oh Lori, this is beautiful, sweet friend, this reminds me of the Van Gogh paonting "Moonlight On The Rhine" and how seeing the light bend over the waters on the riviera is mesmerizing! (kiss on cheek) I love this, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lori, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Thanks for sharing.

I am pleased that you know of the place,
even if it is only in your minds eye.
It's always nice to see you here Ed~
Thank you.

Wings~ I have made the mistake of putting commas where they don't belong, more than a few times, mind you.... so I left them out all together.  But you're right, this would read a little better that way.  Glad you enjoyed, and thanks.

How about I just send you a postcard that says, "wish you were here"

Now then, I am going to go finish my book seeing that I'm getting to the good part!

dreambuilder~ Perhaps it is the days gone by where our dreams are built...or the way we leave them to reflect upon.  Thanks for being so gracious with your compliments.

What a coincidence Tweety, I spent 10 years on Maui many moons ago, where a part of me still dwells.  There's no escaping from paradise, who would really want to...it was the best kind of lullaby, one I will remember for all my days.   If I had known you were there I would have done some serious island hopping.   Thanks.

I am reading up on how to get a clue!   Duncan~
I'm going to write you a poem someday, just because you're such a fun kind of guy.  I will be sure to get a translator and send them over to aisle 12 just in case you get lost.   Thanks again~

I love the ocean at night, it seems to take on a mystery all it's own.
Thank you always Ethel~

Oh how I miss those silver ripples...
how I ache to see the moon light dance on the wave curls...
I still dont have the words to define how I felt sitting on the shore at 3 am...
the ocean is magic at night.
Exquisite write poetess Lori...

TD~ Your comments blow me away.  Coming from you, I don't know what to say.  Just know I thank you for your encouraging words,  and sharing your kind heart with me.   Sincerely~

Hey Janet Marie~ I grew up on the left coast, (California) it was truly my backyard when I was a young girl...then I lived in the Hawaiian islands in my twenties, seems like only yesterday.  Today the beach is a 15 minute drive through the canyon, and where I spend my summer days.   Meanwhile I'm heading over to the right coast in a week or so, and it is there I wish to reach beyond the crest and take in another view and make it last a lifetime.  Hence, my inspiration.  You flatter me with your replies.  Thank you JM~
