Ours The Nutwoods We cannot have the maplewoods, the sugar sap that surges in the bleakest spring, nor yet the willow meads and fruits of summer; these will not be ours. Ours will be only these, the nutwoods of our autumn, that will build a winter's trove when other trees begin to fail. Yes, ours will be the hardwoods, hickory, pecan and walnut, though they lack the cherry sweetness of the springtime or the burgeoning outgrowth of a fruited summer, they will last, and will sustain. When our lives take us to places far and wide - Do we bond with others? Or are we bound to return to the home of the nutwoods?... Nicely penned, RL.. |

Good morning, Ed Even if it is not as pretty or as fragrant, it is good to have the wood that endures! |

Well I am loving this one...I have a thing for trees LOL...I love the white barked trees...the way they stand out against the darker trees...the birches and cottonwoods and the older Elms that shed bark. I love the way bark feels and the way the way leaves smell. See--now ya got me going very cool imagery and theme poet sir. I refuse to accept that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism & war that the daybreak of peace can never be reality. |
