We gathered sticks
and sage-brush bound
and rock of white
reflecting moon
and met beneath
the cypress tree
beneath a moon in bloom.

We took care to recognize
the Goddess
in her full disrobe
and built our fire
low tonight--
homage paid without the curse
of offending greater gods
or goddesses
(as they are called)
a low light played
from twigs of throne
and then I felt
we weren't alone.

I broke the chanting
low-lid eyes
and woke to scan
the wood-kept lies--
"I smell curiosity..."
I sniffed the air
and compromised.

"Find him. But?
bring him to me--
Let him sate
his final need.
He wants to know
the witches' rede?
Bring him to me--
now."

They looked at one another then
in the wonder of a grin
of something never once allowed
and played the leaves of capturing.
There beneath a sago palm
they found him clutching his guitar
sweating rivers graced by moon
his breath rivaled a monsoon
of the winds in shred of leaves
and then they brought him, quivering,
to meet me upon wooded throne
and he sank down to his knees...

He looked at me
humility
and then he sparked the strings.

He played the gypsy violin
and knocked the rap of tambourine
upon a six string rhapsody
he played our song most lovingly
and wet the eyes
of priestess high
by virtue of sincerity
and he never once looked down--
a knight in offer of his liege.

I heard the strings bend to his quest
fingertips upon the neck
and felt the shivers of my spine--
he dared to look. I dared to smile.

He played the beauty of the night.
He played the rising of the sun.
He played the music of the breast
rising in the falls of spun
notes in hammer
with a twist
the silent strength
in yearning wrist
tangled vine around a limb
his fingers sang to me...

Then before the final note
I heard the mighty Orpheus,
smiling that I had kept time
within the bells of ankle rhyme
where the pleasure of me speaks
and keeps the measure of the beat
by the troth of my belief,
I told them, "Let him be."

"This man came to us, in love.
And by intent, he shall be free.
Give to him the feather of
the dove of us, our inner peace.
Let him know no bounds of trust,
let him record the sounds of dust
drifting from the cloud we dance
in circle of our sweet expanse.
Let him tell the others, true.
Witches drink no Satan brew."

Then I kissed him on forehead
and left him with a mark of soot.
No cloth can ever wash it off
and he wears the mark of "good."

A solemn rite--initiate--
beneath the cypress wood.

Karen...wow...THIS is AWESOME!
The rhythm and flow are excellent and the
whole thing just dances off the page.
And the words?...the words are just too cool.
Loving this, my witchy friend.

Hey Kare
I love this love story with a twist. HeeHee!
I felt like I was right there watching.
And, the unknown is sometimes scary, but you
write about it so lovingly, there has to be
truth in it. I looked up some of the links that
Ed had mentioned to me in his thread that time
because Gary is so interested. He still says
that "GG" stand for "Gary's Goddess" instead
of "Garysgirl".

Hugs to you, my good  witchey friend,
Ethel

Oh my...Each word carefully placed to create each mesmerizing line.  When I read your writings, I feel as if I escape not just into another place...but another realm.  Your pen bequeath so much eloquence...You, my dear, will be one I study in my efforts to become the poet I wish to be.
