A sword dulled
hangs loosely from my side
its scabbard weathered and worn

My armor gleams no more
battered and tarnished
by time an consequence

Face ragged and lined
with the memory of too many
battles waged

Steed weary with age
and the burden of me
limps slowly into the citadel

Would you welcome
the sight of this approach
from lofty tower cell

Is honour and chivalry
enough to free your heart
or is it the image you need

Been that guy....haven't we all?

And we know the answer, don't we -- sometimes one, sometimes the other, and you never know beforehand which it will be....

Now there are two words that are rustier than the armor described:  honor and chivalry...  I wonder if anyone appreciates those concepts anymore...?

Get ready for worse...it's all about image
and to refer to a poem getting read or not on a site, if a poem doesn't have a catchy title that sadly to say creates less of an 'image' which would otherwise induce somebody to read...just my truthful opinion, however blunt, appreciate your write

Excellent emotive writing as usual.  I feel like you, only the female version of course, I'm 23, but feel old in my glass slippers...I've gotten to the point where I believe in love so much that I've stopped believing.

Melissa I know you understand, I actually was inspired by some of the last poems you wrote..Images and expectations kill us, it scares me too, I'm always afraid that should I ever find someone, I'll just be 'settled for' because I can't meet said illusions

who needs the image...it's the honor and heart that matter...but it is often too hard to get that point across.

Raph...

I would feel that one who has fought the
gallant fight,  conquered the foe would
reap the spoils easily...

Nicely done,  and mayhaps the armor is
not nearly as tarnished to others as one
might think....

Go for the Grail...it awaits thee.

it really makes you wonder about some women
who want those stiff goody white knights, don't it?  Bring on the bad boys, the ones with the dulled swords and tarnished armour.
Beautiful imagery as usual!  Cunning and witty!

Is honour and chivalry
enough to free your heart
or is it the image you need

Raphey, you write such meaningful poems. Always making us think...but that's a good thing. You can tell by the amount of responses you get to your poems. You know just how to get your point across. So well, that sometimes I'm at a loss of words to say....and that's  very  unusual for me. (just ask anyone who really knows me!!  LOL)

Anyway, Raph, I personally try my best to get to know a person by what they have inside. I have seen and known many people who are very good-looking on the outside, but their insides are so horrible and ugly that they start looking ugly on the outside. And, of course, I have also known a lot of people in my life who were rather homey, but their hearts and personalites were so real and genuine that they became really beautiful people to me. I know that's the what all of us have experienced. Right?
BTW, I think I've asked you this before, but I'll ask again, anyway....if that your own picture that you have under your name? If it is, could you please tell us what you think is so horrible about it? If I may say so, I don't think any of your "fans" see it....the ones of us who are getting to know the person you are inside, by your presence on here through your poems and sensitive replies to the rest of us.

Sorry, I got so long-winded on your thread. I kind of make a habit of that...at times, anyway. Don't I?

Heart hugs to you, friend
Ethel
