I can remember as a child feeling old and pushing hard against the prison walls of youth, until my mind was raw and chafed and bled, then I would remember I'd been both alive and dead before. Memories like tumbled slides from a vacation half-forgotten, flash unexpectedly upon the back wall of my mind; they always make me stop, sit down inside myself, a weary tourist needing time to piece together where I've been; I was years in realizing they are jumbled snips of other lives I lived before, each image marks a door in time without handles on my side, inconveniently but neatly planned to open only on its own when strong winds blow from the right direction, or when I'm jarred by running hard against some jagged edge of fate. © 2003 by icebox |

THIS...is fantastic. How many of us have felt just this...and you have captured it so well. It brought about this... ~*~ I have been drowned I have been burned I have been hung and drawn I have been wind, in history's time, searching for tomorrow. ~*~ Yikes! Another poet who's going to inspire many a sleepless night! |

Searching here for your words is certainly a worthwhile endeavour. It's good having someone explain so well what has troubled many of us. |

Honeybunch ~ Thank for the time you take. If I get "preachy" please bring me up short (it is a character flaw in me). *smile* JamesMichael ~ *laugh* 'tis true! Of course, if I spend too much time inside my own head, when I go out I tend to frighten the children. Thank for reading. passing shadows ~ Thank you for reading. I am glad you enjoyed it. |

about those memories: *********************************** they always make me stop, sit down inside myself, a weary tourist needing time to piece together where I've been *********************************** YES! Someone besides myself who is a weary tourist today! |

Midnitesun ~ *smile* It does get draining at times. For all the help that memory has been in this life, I often have wondered if the resultant complexity was worth the cost. Thank you for reading. Startime55 ~ Thank you for your comment. I am glad you enjoyed it. |

Icebox...I think to remember is a gift, to open it correctly takes a lifetimes to learn. Enjoyed this! |

Martie ~ Mostly, I think so too, but sometimes knowing too much is a burden. I don't think I will ever learn to put the door knobs back on the doors. *laugh* Thank you for your comments. |

You've expressed something that I know well, but cannot quite...write. Thanks for doing it here. |

Well, if I'm going to lose sleep, it might as well be over some interesting reading such as this! |

Felt that one right in the solar plexus--and heart! That was some memory-inducing pill of a poem! Well done! Great write! Warm hugs, EA |

Thank you all for reading and for your comments. I am always torn between the benefits of cross life memory and the downside of knowing more about some people than they might want. The other downside at times is knowing more about myself than I might want. Thank you again for taking the time to read and for your comments |
