I Love You, Mr. Rogers He stepped through the door with a smile on his face And he talked to a child at a childhood pace As he humbly treated the viewer with grace For each child was special as seen through his eyes They believed all his words to be truthful and wise With sincerity even a child could surmise He explained things that no one would think to explain But the message was clear and the meaning was plain For it passed through their eyes to a wondering brain Every child was important, and worthy of praise As he quietly passed through their childhood days And their value was stated in so many ways His love filtered through the cold light of a screen Bringing warmth and belief that inspired a dream As he filled little hearts with their own self esteem His voice is now echoing down from a star "You are special to me though I speak from afar And I love you, dear child, just the way that you are." ~* In Memory Of Fred Rogers - 1928 - 2003 *~ Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (05-06-2003 12:52 AM).] |

Liz, he was such a giant among children of all ages and he'll be sorely missed. My kids are all grown up, but I still loved to watch his show. Hugs dear lady, Marti Few are those who see with their own eyes and feel with their own hearts. A.Einstein |

Oh indeed! He was something wonderful...and still is. I can actually close my eyes and hear him say, "you're special, just by being you." And he made me feel special, even though I was an adult. I loved him, and my children loved him. Thank you for posting this lovely poem! |

Well Liz in 1954 believe it or not, he produced a show that I watched back then. When my son was born Mr. Rogers was a positive influence in his life, and again with my granddaughter. That is quite a career to have been a part of three generations, and I am sure I am not the first to think this, so I love him too. Wonderful tribute to a wonderful man, and yes, it was a wonderful day always in his neighbourhood.

Liz - This is a wonderful tribute - I truly think his family might appreciate reading this. Maybe we can find a way to get it to them??... |

I was so pleased to see the warm comments on Mr Rogers and that someone had posted his pictures on my poem. THank you so much, it truly enhances the poem to see his picture. When my children used to watch him, at times they would leave the room for some reason, and I would continue watching. He was so gentle and kind, and children know the value of praise. I loved him Liz |

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Elizabeth, Mr. Rogers has always been my favorite TV celebrity and always will be, and actually, I don't even see him as a celebrity, but as a soul father! I would never miss an episode when I was little and even now I always try and watch it with my sister every day I can! (kiss on cheek) I will miss him so much and I pray more people like him with caring hearts will send hugs to the children and shield them from the sins of television and teach them with simply love, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Elizabeth, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton Underneath your clothes, there's an endless story |

Liz, I had to come back. Our oldest son graduated from Union College in Schnectady, NY two years ago. The graduation speaker than for the life of me was someone whose name I cannot remember or even what he talked about. Big impression he made on this proud mom. The speaker for this June's commencement was supposed to be Mr. Rogers. We were planning to go, just to hear him speak. The college is planning a tribute to him, but what a loss for the graduating class of 2003. And what a loss for us. Hugs, Marti |
