Kissing the dust from Ten Mile Basin a taste of the strong-arm summer run, breakneck paces with familiar faces under a relentless western sun. Give to us all of it, for the while our dire, delirious gamblings go, drinking cheap whiskey seemed less risky than what lay ahead in the Basin below. Blistering metal in the bed of that Ford we blessed the bumps of a dirt packed road, taking in air that would rip through our hair and lighten hesitation from the reckless load. Reaching the outskirts brought back to mind memories of countless trips we'd taken before, but the means had changed, the places arranged a more terrible outcome in store. The Basin was quiet like a beckoning tomb with plenty of room for a half dozen souls, and in looks forsaken we knew we'd be taken for granted, for the sins soon taking their toll. Katie was scared but her tears would deny her the chance to regain what she had lost, nevermore would they label her a whore-- in the Basin came today the tempest tossed. Guilt of our crimes seemed a minimal price righteous rage always seems that way, no longer just kids with Wild Turkey and lids we'd grown down to the evil that would make them pay. Kissing the dust from Ten Mile Basin a taste of the strong-arm summer run, sweet justice thrived to silence the lies before it was all over, said and done. |
