Little Candles A tiny glowing beam illuminates a christened name Among the subtle iridescent flares of living flame Towered by the vast cathedral’s ancient holy space Quivering little candles, each remembrance of a face They vacillate in unison as dampness drifts about The dank and musty drafts in dire pursuit to snuff them out Flickering to and fro they turn the shadows into ghosts Transfiguring the granite walls to lively dancing hosts Through stained glass windows pass a slice of sun and piercing air But tenants never die within the smallness of a flare Nor in the dimness of a daunting hall of wooden pews That stood more than a century in the steep of fading hues How many prayers these walls do hold, how many candles shown How many flames surrendered to the mass of chiseled stone While footsteps echo into nooks above the rafters’ heights Faith hovers just above the scent of little burning lights She lit a candle in his name, it flickered in the gloom Alive as was God’s presence in His grand and sacred room And as she walked out through the doors into the noon day glare She glanced back at the dancing flame that licked a draft of air A flame that lingered tenuously until the wick was worn The warm and winking eye of love, that glowed since love was born A love that lit the universe for moments was exhumed And lights the highest rafters from remoteness of a tomb A glowing cross bears life and death in its eternal gleam A candle momentarily lights a resurrected dream Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (05-01-2003 10:25 PM).] |

Incredibly beautiful Elizabeth! Yet something hauntingly sad lies within... Your wonderful wonderful imagery took me there. ~Smiles & Hugs, Nancy~ ~Somewhere in my heart I'm always |

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Elizabeth, this so deeply touched my heart, sweet friend, this reminded me so much of the Mother Cabrini shrine up on top of Lookout Mountain here in Colorado; it has a shrine where you can light candles and I think of all the children of the world and an angels guidance when lighting them! (wipes tears) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Elizabeth, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton Underneath your clothes, there's an endless story |
