Lift up this soft box of hearts,
the soapstone letters of your passing
days and nights among a room of light
and dust.

Find the notes like silver coins
spinning somewhere by themselves
with the shadow cents they bring
to you.

Play a song like fractured rainbows
about a girl who painted canvas
white or black, left it blank
or dark.

Taste with her that map of glass
and feathers. Rust and paint and chains.
Seams and nails and mirrored face.
Sheets of notes in score.

Find the chords and let them burn
as sunlight on a beach of stones.
Collect yourself from the color
of the tidepool near that shore.

Stream along as fingers flex
and soothe the metal strung and rung.
Wring out all the watered blood.
Sit back.

Lay down this soft box of hearts.
They fluttered for you, passing by.
Now let their whispered beats comfort you
to sleep.

Beauty in the soothing tones of your performance here my friend.  A very lyrical appeal in the flowing lines. Very well said.

(big hugggssssssss) Oh Michael, I too own an acoustic guitar, and an electric one too, and I feel some of the best songs come straight from ones most treasured memories, and like silver dollars each one will make a mint when a loved one is touched and lost in the music! (sigh) This is wonderful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Michael, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

This is beautiful - the direction of your work lately has taken you to a higher plain. You are getting better and better (if that was possible as everything you write is exceptional!). Glad to vote here!

This entire work did that... so very well. *S*

Thank you all for voting for this late-comer. I don't know if it will garner enough votes to get in the book, but it's nice to have more people read it here than its original posting in Dark. I feel a strange affection for this piece, and am glad you all enjoyed it.

First, I have to say that your picture absolutely cracks me up.

And now I must proclaim that I absotively posolutely love this.  The title caught my eye.. many a  year have I spent playing on my acoustic guitar (it's a shame really, I should be better than I am). Wonderfully written.
